Before you plan to involve your kids with the dog there are few things you need to teach the puppy. Teach them the commands like come command, fetch command and the give command. Restrict yourself from teaching them to jump, chase or the tug of war game. It is suggested that an adult should teach the basics of the games first to the dog. He should do it before involving the kids. To start with teach them to give things like toys or balls when you ask them to give it. The best way to teach this game is to trade foods as an incentive to bringing stuffs. When you think your puppy is doing great with this, you might move on and try tug of war. But an adult or a responsible teen should be there in case the kids or the puppy get too rough. Dogs love to be treated. Use this to your advantage. Help your kids to train the puppy to come, sit and leave with the help of foods as an encouragement. The foods should be small, light and easy to consume so that it does not get tired after having too much calories. Hold a piece of food above the puppy’s nose. Move it backward unless it attains the perfect position. Once it does command it to sit. In the same manner you can teach a lot of stuff to your dog. But never forget to give your dog the food bite that you have been showing. Gradually decrease the frequency of treating. Treat him once it completes 3 times perfectly. You could also use your puppy’s favourite toy in the place of food. With proper training and a bit of patience from you and your kids might help the dog learning the techniques. |
